HTC has just announced the HTC One M8 smartphone which replaces the less-than-a-year-old HTC One with a larger and more powerful handset.
But is the HTC One M8 any match for Apple's latest impressive offering, the iPhone 5S? Which of these high-end smartphones should the discerning consumer go for?
Let's break down the spec differences and take a look.
Display
The most obvious change HTC has made is to increase the size of the display.
Phones are getting bigger every year, and HTC clearly didn't want to get left out of the trend. Building on the 4.7in screen of the HTC One by decking out its new HTC smartphone with a 5in display, this is one spec the Taiwanese manufacturer isn't intending to miss out on.
Fans hoping for a significant resolution upgrade will be disappointed, however - there's no 4K or QHD to be found on the HTC One M8, with the resolution staying resolutely at 1,920 x 1,080 (1080p), and a PPI of 441 - lower than the original HTC One.
In comparison, Apple has never been too preoccupied with screen size. While there's been a steady trend towards larger-screened iPhones, the 4in 5S looks practically tiddly in today's market. If media consumption is part of your phone's job, you could do worse than the HTC One M8. Otherwise, the good build and 64-bit chip of the iPhone 5S could come out on top.
